As a licensed MFT, I provide both short-term and long-term psychotherapy in private practice. My practice serves the Greater Sacramento Valley region where I offer both in-person and online therapy via video appointments to California residents. I use a clinical structure but eclectic style in treatment approach and believe there is not a one-size-fits-all method that works for everyone. I believe people enter therapy at different stages of life and look to gain practical skills within a safe relationship. I graduated from Sacramento State in 2015 with a background in psychology. I have over 15 years of experience working therapeutically with children and families in in-home, school, and community settings. I enjoy working with couples and helping to create greater intimacy in the relationship. I also have particular interest in individual psychotherapy. I offer a safe, non-judgmental, and flexible "calmspace" for my clients to process weekly challenges to achieve short-term and long-term goals. I am committed to helping and guiding you through this journey. Please call or email me to consult your needs. My doors are always open to you! I look forward to collaborating in your care.

My approach to psychotherapy is based on a relational model. I have found this model to be necessary for permanent change. How people relate to others is formed in the relationship patterns they experienced as a child. We spend years learning how to behave in certain ways, and it can take some time and effort to learn new ways to interact with others. Further, for lasting change, we must experience new ways of interacting with others; in short, a therapist. If you have questions about how my approach to therapy might be helpful to you, please contact me. Thanks. On my way to become a therapist I worked a number of different jobs. I have been a dock worker, a 7-11 clerk, and a janitor, among other jobs. These experiences have, I feel, enhanced my understanding of some of the pressures individuals confront in life. I have office hours from 11:00pm until 4:00pm, Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesdays.

If you are reading this, take heart, as you've already demonstrated your courage. Many people, if not most, never seek the help they need, professionally or personally. As a therapist, my philosophy is that every person is unique in their own way, and this requires a unique solution to the challenges you face. People are incredibly complex, and many times this is why cookie cutter interventions often fall flat, because the client is not fully understood before interventions are prescribed. View 4 Photos You know yourself better than anyone, and my goal as a therapist is to tap this knowledge and, through the filter of my own broad experience and insight, work with you to develop goals and steps to these goals, in order to overcome the hurdles that life has thrown at you. I also believe in the power of humor, and that therapy does not always have to be this serious and intense process 100 percent of the time. Therapy can be whatever you the client need it to be in order to heal and grow in the most optimal way.

Hi! I’m Kalene. I work with people who find it easy to show compassion to others but struggle to have self-compassion. They're often perfectionists, people-pleasers, helpers, empaths, highly sensitive people (HSPs), and overthinkers. I have additional training and experience in treating anxiety/depression and working with survivors of sexual trauma (including childhood sexual abuse, and assault/rape in adulthood). I find that people in these populations can be particularly vulnerable to being unkind to themselves. I specialize in helping people quiet the inner critic, lessen feelings of shame, and find peace with themselves. My aim to is to help you unravel both the internal sources of self-criticism (such as painful parts of your past, negative thoughts you hold on to, and a sense of emotions controlling you rather than the other way around), and external sources of pain (like stressful life transitions, ruptures in relationships, and the impact of cultural or societal norms). With a background in mindfulness and Othmer Method neurofeedback, I strive to help you experience and practice self-compassion & healing, rather than just talking about it. Whether we work together 1:1 or in a therapy group, short- or long-term, I want to help you gain practical skills for self-acceptance and self-compassion that you can use for a lifetime.
